There are 2 parts to configuring
your dial-up access if you are using Windows 95/98. (Also applies to Windows
ME)
- Adding Dial-up Networking.
- Setting Up Dial-Up Networking & Dial Up Connection.

Creating a
Dial-Up Connection in Windows XP has been greatly simplified by making use
of a "New Connection Wizard". |

- Double-click on My Computer. If there is a
Dial-Up Networking folder, skip this part and continue on to "Setting Up
Dial-Up Session".
- Double-click on Control Panel icon.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click on the Windows Setup tab at the top of the
dialog box.
- Click on Communications.
- Click the Details button.
- Check the box next to Dial-Up Networking.
- Click the OK button to return to the dialog box.
- Click OK in Add/Remove Programs.
- Windows should prompt you to Restart Windows, click
OK. Your computer will reboot.

- Click the "Start" button.
- On the right hand side of the new "Start Menu",
click on "Connect To".
- Then click on "Show All Connections" on the submenu
that pops up.
- This brings up the "Network Connections" folder.
- In the menu to the left of the window, under
"Network Tasks", click "Create New Connection".
- This will start the "New Connection Wizard".

- Double-click on My Computer.
- Double-click the Dial-up networking icon.
- Double-click on Make New Connection icon.
- Type in ATPRS.net
as the name of the computer you are dialing.
- Click the Next button.
- Enter the local access number 204-1866 for Jackson,
Mo. and 238-9882 for Marble Hill.
- Click the Next button.
- Click Finish.
- Right click the new ATPRS.net icon.
- Select "Properties".
- Select "Server Type".
- Select "Dial-up Server-PPP,
Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet".
- Select "Advanced Options".
- Uncheck "Log onto Network" and check "Enable Software Compression".
- Allowed Network Protocols check "TCP/IP" and
uncheck all others.
- Select "TCP/IP" settings.
- Check "Server Assigned IP Address".
- Check "Server Assigned Name Server Address".
- Check "Use IP Header Compression".
- Check "Use Default Gateway On Remote Network".
- Select OK in "TCP/IP Settings and Server types".
- Double-click the ATPRS.net
icon.
- Enter in your login name and password.
- Click "Connect".

- Inside the "New Connection Wizard" window, click
Next.
- "Connect To The Internet" should already be
selected, if it is not click on the circle next to it to select it and
click the Next button.
- Select "Setup My Connection Manually" and click the
Next button.
- Select "Connect Using A Dial-Up Modem" and click
the Next button.
- In the text box type in ATPRS.net, and click
the Next button.
- Enter the local access number 204-1866 for Jackson,
Mo. and 238-9882 for Marble Hill, and
click the Next button.
- This next page contains text boxes for your user
name, password, and password confirmation. Enter all of the appropriate
information into each of these lines. The password boxes will not reveal
the characters when you enter in your text so be slow and deliberate when
typing in your password and confirming it by typing it in a second time.
This is to insure that you do not put in the wrong password by mistake.
- Make sure there is a check mark in the three check
boxes underneath the text boxes.
- On the next page make sure you check the box called
"Add a shortcut for this connection to my desktop".
- Click the "Finish" button. This will create an icon
like this in your "Network Connections" folder.

- Immediately after you click the Finish button,
Windows will bring up a Connection Window, click the "Dial" button to
connect to ATPRS.net.
- You will now have a desktop icon like this which
you can double click anytime you need to connect to the Internet.
